This is a commission I completed for ShadowedLullaby
, as a gift for their friend, Professorfartsparkle
- of their character "Esmeralda"
Many aspects of the Esmeralda's personality went into certain decisions regarding this image, beyond what her original design is. The character Esmeralda is a 200 year old Vampire Witch, with slitted pupils, and a preference for wearing kimonos to sensually reveal her shoulders and cleavage. A few of her likes include lilies and the night, so when I was asked to draw her with lilies, I thought it would be quite fitting to show her in a garden at night- dimly lit by a lantern, surrounded by her favorite flowers, playing her chinese lute.
She also has many gemstones listed in her favorites, including (but not limited to) moonstone and quartz... Which I used in some of her jewelry, along with pearls... I just love pearls, and the light colored accessories went well against the sea of black and gold that was her hair.
Usually I like to draw gold ornaments and accessories, but because of the gold in her hair, I thought it would look best to have the accessories be different!
Her accessories were very much inspired by her being a vampire witch, so I tried infusing more of that type of look into her appearance. My favorite part of her outfit I did was the black lacquered hairpiece with cherry blossoms, speckled with gold... It really seems like something I'd love to have adorned my hair with, if I had lived in such a period....though I'm sure that people like me in that time weren't wearing such fancy things... but probably cleaning up after them or something..
but I live vicariously through my drawings! So it's almost as much fun to draw these things as it is to actually wear them.
...right.. anyways, this was a very enjoyable commission to do- I don't usually do such involved backgrounds like this, so it was really fun to challenge myself- and I like how it turned out, and I hope you all do as well
It's desktop wallpaper friendly, so feel free to use it as such!
Drawn and colored using Painttool SAI, finishing touches done using Photoshop CS2, all using Wacom Intuos4 Tablet.Commissions are OPEN! Sketches start at 10$!
